Adopt a Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat)

Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

Addie the Dog needs a home

My name is Addie, that's short for Adeline.  I am available for adoption through Colorado Canine Rescue (CCR), a nonprofit dog rescue located in the Denver area. I came to CCR from a rural shelter in Texas and there is very little history on me.  CCR has been told I am a Collie/Shepherd mix, but that is just a guess made by shelter staff, rescue volunteers, and our veterinarians.   Addie is about a year and a half old and weighs just under 50 lbs. Addie is a happy go lucky, loyal, girl. She loves to spend time with her owner/handler and does best with someone that has a calm demeanor.

Addie can be very excitable. If her excited personality is not encouraged, she calms down dramatically. She will do wonderfully in a forever home with someone who will continue correcting the excitable behavior, while nurturing her calmer side. Addie is very responsive to her human and really aims to please. She walks really well on a leash, provided you are a good handler, and she only needs occasional, minor corrections to keep her from getting distracted. Addie definitely needs to be walked every day, at least 1-2 miles.

Addie enjoys playing with other dogs in a controlled setting. Once she is introduced calmly and encouraged to sniff, she is fine to play and romp. Addie does well understanding cues from other dogs, avoids confrontation, and will prod another furry with her muzzle to get them to play. Addie is a curious little girl. She likes to put her nose in the trash or the dishwasher, but responds wonderfully to corrections (nonverbal is best), and respects boundaries when set. The vet feels Addie can only see shadows out of her left eye which is believed to be a congenital deformity.  You would not know it with her ability to catch a ball! Fetch is one of her favorite interactions with her companion.

She has been kenneled when the foster is not home and at bed time, but would prefer to sleep with her human companion.  Addie needs structure and continued reminder what is ok behavior and what is not. She rides well in the car, probably will chase a running cat only to play.  Due to her energy would do best in a home with young teens or older. In quiet time, Addie will lay at your feet, to be as close as possible to her human companions.

If you are interested in adopting Addie, please submit an adoption application located on our website, www.coloradocaninerescue.org. We are asking for a  $200 adoption donation for Addie.  Please note, CCR cannot guarantee the breed composition or ages of our dogs as we usually have no history prior to them entering the shelter. In addition, most dogs listed as potty trained will experience an adjustment period as they learn the routines in their new home.
